Google’s Fiber Internet Service to Expand to 5 New States

Google Fiber, the high-speed internet service from Alphabet Inc.’s Google unit, is expanding to five new states, the company announced on Tuesday.

The service will be available in Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Nebraska and Nevada, bringing the total number of states with Google Fiber to 12. Google Fiber offers speeds of up to 2 gigabits per second, which is about 100 times faster than the average broadband speed in the United States.

The expansion is part of Google’s plan to make high-speed internet more widely available. The company has already invested more than $10 billion in its Fiber network and plans to invest billions more in the coming years.

Google Fiber is currently available in parts of 17 cities in the United States, including Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, New York City, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Portland, Raleigh-Durham, Salt Lake City, San Antonio, San Francisco, San Jose and Tampa.

The expansion to five new states will make Google Fiber available to more than 5 million people. The company said it plans to begin offering service in the new states in the coming months.

Google Fiber is facing competition from other high-speed internet providers, such as AT&T, Comcast and Verizon. AT&T has been expanding its fiber network in recent years and now offers speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second in parts of 21 states. Comcast also offers speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second in parts of 39 states. Verizon offers speeds of up to 940 megabits per second in parts of 11 states.

Despite the competition, Google Fiber is seen as a major player in the high-speed internet market. The company’s fiber network is one of the most extensive in the United States and offers some of the fastest speeds available. The expansion to five new states will make Google Fiber even more competitive and could help to drive down prices for high-speed internet service.

Here are the five new states that will be getting Google Fiber:

* Arizona: Phoenix and Tucson
* Colorado: Colorado Springs and Denver
* Idaho: Boise
* Nebraska: Lincoln and Omaha
* Nevada: Las Vegas and Reno.
