Kristen Stewart
I cannot think of a single time K.Stew has missed on a red carpet, but this Chanel short suit is an all-time best. It is so undeniably her and the choice to use a ruby red necklace instead of a tie is inspired. —Anna Moeslein, deputy editor
Lily James
Lily’s pink look is whimsical, sweet, and sexy. Plus I love a good platform heel paired with a hint of leg. The plunging neckline and lace details don’t hurt either. —Cortni Spearman, senior social media manager
Ariana DeBose
I love a functional look, and this two-piece pants set did not disappoint. The bright red is breathtaking, and the minimal jewelry is the perfect touch to not take away from the look itself. The cape is the icing on the cake, not to mention the pants have pockets! —Jazmin Gathers, social media manager.
Simu Liu
Leave it to Simu Liu to wear the most interesting menswear look of the night. The actor flexed his fashion prowess during the Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’s press tour and did not disappoint for his Oscars debut. In a sea of black and navy tuxes, Liu dared to stand out in a sharp red Versace tuxedo and patent leather shoes. Red is not only the trending color of tonight’s red carpet, but also significant in Chinese culture, signifying good fortune and happiness. —Ariana Yaptangco, beauty editor
Zoë Kravitz
On anyone else I would think meh, but the baby pink bow is the perfect compliment to Zoë’s edgier style, and it looks so fresh and cool. Paired with her baby bangs and blingy choker, it’s my favorite take on Audrey Hepburn in recent history. —Bella Cacciatore, beauty writer
Yoon Yeo-jeong
Award show gowns can feel dated, but trying to be edgy reads as try-hard to me. So I applaud a woman who show up to carpets looking chic as hell—no mermaid trains and no gimmicks. Yeo-jeong was the picture of expensive elegance in this tailored-to-perfection long-sleeve black dress with gold buttons. The slightly asymmetrical hem added interest, and what better accessory to wear in 2022 than a blue ribbon to signify her support for Ukrainian refugees? —Perrie Samotin, digital director
Zendaya
In a year where the typical red carpet gowns are giving way to nontraditional sets and skin-baring ensembles, Zendaya gave the best of both worlds in a cropped silk button-up and sparkling floor-length skirt by Valentino. She simply never misses. —Emily Tannenbaum, weekend editor
Lupita Nyong’o
“I’m immediately drawn to the metallic gowns we are seeing on the red carpet, like Lupita’s fringy gold Prada dress. Shiny is always going to grab my attention!” —Gabriella Iannetta, associate director of audience development
Cynthia Erivo
YES to Erivo’s Louis Vuitton custom tuxedo jacket, bra, and long skirt with a dreamy train. She not only looks modern and remarkably chic, but she nailed one of the season’s biggest trends: forgoing a shirt altogether underneath a blazer in favor of a micro-top (or, you know, a bra.) —P.S.
Jada Pinkett Smith
I’m not going to lie, I always love seeing what Jada shows up to the red carpet in. The fact that she wore Glenn Martins’s take on Jean-Paul Gaultier for the designer’s latest couture collection is quite literally the fashion moment of the year. It’s haute couture without being stereotypical haute couture—that is to say, it’s missing the typical girly, bubbly, feminine elements that I personally find a bore. The way Martins handles fabric is out of this world, and I’m so glad to see Jada chose a look from his Gaultier collection to grace us all with. —Ana Escalante, editorial assistant
Megan Thee Stallion
Meg went a bit out of the box with the blue and lots of leg! I love a sleek hair look with a plunging neckline and lots of skin! Bold makeup tied this look all together and made her look so elegant. —C.S.
Maggie Gyllenhaal
My favorite thing about Maggie Gyllenhaal’s Schiaparelli couture Oscar dress is that she looks, in a non-problematic way, like a paper doll—the structured, off-the-shoulder sleeves remind me of those little paper tabs. The gold accents look like the sparkly pompoms on a nicely wrapped gift, but run over by a car. The whole thing feels so tactile and sophisticated and suited to her leap to the world of screenwriting and directing. I love it, I love the whole thing. —Jenny Singer, staff writer
