On April 1, Zendaya and her longtime stylist Law Roach reunited for their first red-carpet appearance since his shocking retirement from celebrity styling.
According to Roach, the 26-year-old joined the fashion icon as his plus-one at the opening of the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre in Mumbai, India. Despite hitting the carpet together, Roach held fast to his decision to stop styling celebs, including his “main girl.” Instead, Roach confirmed on Instagram Stories that he acted as Zendaya’s creative director. Both wore stunning embroidered pieces by Rahul Mishra and were styled by the Indian designer’s team.
Per the designer, Zendaya wore the hand-embroidered Verdure saree gown with a Flying Cranes bralette, while Law was dressed in the Shirley Poppy sherwani jacket and a black lehenga skirt.
During a sweet red-carpet moment, Zendaya can be seen adjusting her close friend’s Bulgari necklace as they posed for photos together. “My stylist fixing @bulgari necklace!!! 🐍🐍🐍,” Law captioned the video on Instagram. And the student becomes the teacher, as they say.
Following Roach’s surprise retirement announcement in March due to “politics” and “lies,” the influential stylist defended Zendaya from rumors that the pair fell out over a seating debacle at a Louis Vuitton show. After explaining what really went down at LV, Roach confirmed his professional relationship with Zendaya is far from over. “People will say, ‘Oh, you not gonna leave Zendaya.’ But I don’t have to style Zendaya to be a part of her team and her creativity team, right?” Roach told in March. “So maybe if I choose, you know, not to be her stylist, I can still be her creative director and I can still, you know, manage a stylist or however I choose to do it. I haven’t made a decision. She’s giving me the grace to be able to make that decision because we really have a kinship. Like, you know, we’ve grown up together. And that’s all I ever asked, was for people who I worked so hard for to just give me grace when I need it.”
