Ecopel and DyeCoo unveil recycled fur dyed without water

After a three-year collaboration prompted by Kering
An innovation that is not yet available on the market, and is described as having a look and feel similar to sheepskin. To avoid using water, the process adopted by DyeCoo utilises CO2. The process is not a novelty for DyeCoo, but the challenge was applying it to produce fake furs for French specialist Ecopel.
“Using it for a different product was a real challenge and an exciting experience,” said Christian Tubito, head of Kering’s Materials Innovation Lab. “It was also a forward-thinking move, since a water-free and chemical-free treatment facility will soon be operational in Europe to scale up production. This is just one of the many processing innovations through which Kering strives to reduce resource consumption in the fashion industry,” he added.
After a test phase, the project’s next step will be to kickstart production, using facilities provided by Areto, a Spanish manufacturer in which Ecopel bought a stake in February, and which FashionNetwork.com
