Meghan Markle’s Secret to Always Looking Put Together Is So Easy

Call it the Shiv Roy effect, but in early summer 2023 it seemed like everyone was wearing monochromatic corporate-core ensembles, Meghan Markle included. Now, as summer draws to a close, the duchess is showing us how to transition our starchy white single-hue ensembles for fall.

While in Düsseldorf, Germany, where she’s supporting hubby Prince Harry’s sixth annual Invictus Games, Markle sported several monochromatic ’fits in fall-forward tones of cream, tawny brown, and navy. And on September 15, the 42-year-old arrived at the cycle medal ceremony in the perfect transitional ensemble for those early fall days: an eggshell button-down romper under a matching lightweight blazer. She styled the easy, breezy look with gold jewelry—hoops, a pendant necklace, and cuffs—and minimalist black accessories: a cross-body bag and braided slides.

The secret, as the duchess knows, to a monochromatic outfit that feels more “stealth wealth” and less “matching pajamas” is a variation in texture. Her canvas tie-front romper, for example, has a more relaxed vibe, while her tailored cream blazer adds structure to the look. This contrast creates depth and complexity to an otherwise simple outfit.

The latte-colored look Markle wore on September 14, consisting of a silk top and linen trousers, is another perfect example of texture play at work, as is the knit vest-and-denim combo, which she’s done in both white and black versions this week.
