Blake Lively Embraces Touristcore With Some Controversial Summer Footwear

**UPDATE: July 14, 2023—**Consider this an optical illusion. No matter how many times I watch this Blake Lively commercial for Betty Buzz, I still see socks and sandals. Alas, Lively is actually wearing a pair of multi-colored loafers, which feature a white panel that blends in pretty seamlessly with her socks. Original post: Blake Lively just put out a silly, goofy commercial wearing the silly, goofy footwear trend of the summer.

On July 10, Lively’s alcohol-free mixer brand, Betty Buzz, dropped a new commercial starring its founder and a toucan. “I asked for two cans from Amazon,” Lively says from inside some sort of caged-in zoo enclosure. “Not a fucking toucan from the Amazon.” Cue a colorful bird pecking at her navy trousers. Cute! But I want to talk about her outfit.

In the clip, which begins zoomed in on Lively’s bemused expression, the 35-year-old actor is wearing a padded-shoulder blazer and matching trousers with a white tank top. As the shot zooms out, however, it appears she paired the power suit with a breezy yellow summer sandal and a set of thick gray socks…which is definitely an interesting choice.

Socks and sandals are quickly becoming a thing in summer 2023. Of course, Jennifer Lawrence pairing sporty black socks with Adilette Comfort Slides could have meant nothing. I mean, everybody’s dad has worn that combo on vacation at some point. But then Hailey Bieber went and paired a set of black fisherman sandals with white crew socks and it looked like we were heading straight toward a summer of ankle tan lines.

Forget cottagecore, balletcore, and Barbiecore. Now that Blake Lively has hopped on this unexpected trend, it’s officially touristcore season. Get into it.
